The project was co-funded by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund) and Greece, under the Operational Programme \u201cCentral Macedonia 2014\u20132020\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through this project, hardware and software systems were designed and tested, allowing the recovery of data from malfunctioning hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs) without requiring the physical shipment of the storage medium. The entire process is carried out through remote guidance and controlled access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CS-Recovery applies two proprietary tools developed specifically for this purpose:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>CSRemoter: A USB-powered device that connects to the drive via SATA and allows remote power cycling, selective reading of damaged sectors, and automated retry. It is operated with custom Linux-based software that automates the recovery process from unresponsive drives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DfS (Diagnostics for Seagate): A diagnostic and repair system designed to resolve firmware-level faults, especially the BSY bug found in Seagate drives. It enables complete recovery with remote user guidance, without technician intervention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The effectiveness of the system was evaluated on hundreds of storage devices, including 118 HDDs provided by a partner in China. These test cases included scenarios such as firmware failure, power instability, non-initializing drives, and thermal issues. The system enabled data recovery even from media affected by physical damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company\u2019s thermal interface material K5 PRO was used in all SSD recovery operations involving thermal degradation or wear. K5 PRO ensured temperature stability during prolonged operation and was critical in improving success rates in advanced recovery cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scientific results of the project were presented at two international conferences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cDistance Data Recovering from Faulty HDDs: Preliminary Investigation\u201d, ICCIKE 2023, Amity University, Dubai. The paper examined the feasibility of recovering data remotely from a hard disk without the technician\u2019s physical presence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cComparative Analysis of Remote Access Data Recovery Methods: Introducing a Novel Approach and Hardware\u201d, ET 2024, Sozopol, Bulgaria. The paper was published in IEEE Xplore and compared CS\u2019s approach with commercial and open-source methods, showing superior performance in cases of physical damage.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The final results of the project were officially presented during Tech Week 2024, organized by Ace Labs in M\u00e1laga, Spain. This event is considered the most important global meeting in the field of data recovery, attended by professionals and laboratories from around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A patent application was submitted to protect the system developed in the project. The patent describes a method of remote control over power supply, thermal management, and sector reading during data recovery, including the integration of thermal interface materials and guided user intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remote recovery services are now available to individuals and professionals.
